ADDICTION
Addiction is a treatable condition. It's chronic, meaning it will continue to cause symptoms repeatedly, usually over many years. Addiction is complex, meaning that many different factors impact the development of the illness, including:
- genetics
- personality
- family
- environment
When talking about addiction, we usually think about substance or chemical addictions, now known as substance use disorders. But there are many types of addictions, including gambling, sex addiction, pornography addiction, food addiction, and others.
Some of the more common substance use disorders include:
- alcohol
- opioids (heroin, fentanyl, painkillers, etc.)
- nicotine or tobacco
- cannabis or THC
- cocaine
